Extract text from images using client-side OCR.
Was this tool useful?
Does this tool upload my images to any server?
No. All OCR processing happens entirely inside your browser using Tesseract.js and WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device.
What types of images work best with this tool?
This tool works best with screenshots, scanned documents, printed pages, receipts, invoices, and photos of book pages. It is not designed for book covers, logos, posters, or heavily stylized text on colored or gradient backgrounds.
What image formats are supported?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and TIFF formats are supported.
Which languages does the OCR support?
The tool supports 19+ languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Telugu, and more.
What does the confidence score mean?
The confidence score indicates how certain the OCR engine is about its text recognition. Higher scores (80%+) mean more accurate results.
Why is the extracted text inaccurate or garbled?
Common causes include complex backgrounds, decorative fonts, messy handwriting, or very small text. Since this tool runs 100% locally in your browser for privacy, it uses a lightweight engine (Tesseract) that struggles with connected cursive or highly stylized writing. It works best on printed text or very clear, separated handwriting.
Can I extract text from book covers or posters?
Book covers, posters, and similar designs with text on complex colored backgrounds are not well supported. The OCR engine is optimized for document-style text, not decorative or stylized layouts.
Can I extract text from screenshots?
Yes. Screenshots with clear, readable text typically produce excellent results.
What does the 'Enhance' option do?
When enabled, the tool preprocesses the image using advanced binarization (Sauvola algorithm) to handle shadows and varying ink density. This significantly improves accuracy for photos of printed pages and scanned documents, but should be disabled for clean screenshots.
Can I download the extracted text?
Yes. You can copy the text to your clipboard or download it as a .txt file.
