Does this PNG to WebP tool upload my images to any server?
No. The conversion happens entirely inside your browser using a canvas. Your PNG file never leaves your device.
Why does the tool only accept PNG files?
The converter checks both MIME type and file extension. Only real .png files are allowed to ensure proper decoding and stable WebP conversion.
Will the converted WebP keep transparency?
Yes. Since PNG transparency is preserved in the canvas, the resulting WebP also supports full alpha transparency.
Why do I get the error 'WebP not supported by this browser'?
Some older browsers or in-app browsers cannot encode WebP through canvas. Updating to a modern browser usually resolves this issue.
What does the WebP quality slider do?
It adjusts compression between 10% and 100%. Higher values keep more detail; lower values produce smaller file sizes with more compression.
Why is only one PNG processed at a time?
This tool is designed for single-image conversion. After downloading the WebP output, you can upload another PNG and convert it.
Does converting remove metadata?
Yes. Since the PNG is redrawn onto a canvas, all EXIF metadata — including GPS, camera info, and timestamps — is removed automatically.
Why does conversion fail on some images?
Common causes include corrupted PNG files, extremely large images, or browser inability to decode the PNG or encode WebP. Trying a different image or browser often helps.
Why does the downloaded file use the name 'converted.webp'?
For compatibility across all browsers, the tool uses a safe default filename. You may rename it after downloading.
