How to Split PDF Pages

Split a large PDF into smaller outputs by selecting exact page ranges and exporting only what you need.

Step-by-step split workflow

  1. Upload the PDF you want to split: Drag and drop your PDF into the upload area or click to browse for the file. The tool checks the file and shows the total number of pages.
  2. Enter the page range to extract: In the page range field, type which pages you want in the new PDF. Use commas and ranges, for example 1-3,5,8. Leave the field empty to keep all pages.
  3. Choose an output file name: Enter a name for the split PDF. Invalid characters are cleaned automatically and .pdf is added if you omit it.
  4. Split the PDF: Click the Split PDF button. A progress line updates as each selected page is copied into the new document.
  5. Download the new PDF: When splitting is complete, your browser downloads the new PDF containing only the selected pages. If the download is blocked, adjust your browser’s download or popup settings and try again.

FAQ

Does this PDF splitter upload my file to any server?

No. All splitting happens entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your PDF never leaves your device, and nothing is uploaded or stored.

Why does the tool say my PDF is password-protected?

If pdf-lib detects that the PDF is encrypted, it cannot be opened in-browser. Remove the password using your PDF reader (e.g., 'Save as' without encryption) and try again.

How do I select the pages to extract?

Use a range like `1-3`, or a comma list like `2,5,7`, or a combination such as `1-2,4,6-8`. Leaving the field empty extracts all pages.

What happens if I enter an invalid range?

If a page number is out of bounds or the range format is invalid, the tool shows an error (e.g., 'Invalid range: 3-1' or 'Invalid page: 12'). The PDF is not processed until the issue is fixed.
