Does this JPG to WebP tool upload my images to any server?
No. All conversion happens inside your browser using a canvas. Your JPG file never leaves your device, and nothing is uploaded or stored.
Why does the tool only accept JPG or JPEG files?
The converter checks both the MIME type and file extension. Only .jpg and .jpeg images are supported to ensure reliable decoding and conversion.
Why am I getting the error 'WebP not supported by this browser'?
Some older browsers or in-app browsers cannot encode WebP images. If the canvas fails to export WebP, the tool displays this error. Updating to a modern browser usually fixes the issue.
Will lowering the WebP quality reduce the file size?
Yes. Lower quality values significantly reduce file size but may introduce compression artifacts. A setting between 70% and 90% is a good balance for most images.
Does converting to WebP reduce image quality?
WebP uses lossy compression by default, so small visual differences may appear depending on the chosen quality. Higher quality settings preserve more detail.
Why is only one image processed at a time?
This tool is designed for single-image conversion. After downloading your WebP, you can upload a new JPG and repeat the process.
Why does the output name default to 'converted.webp'?
Browsers restrict dynamic filenames for data URLs. To guarantee compatibility, the tool provides a safe default filename for the download.
Does converting remove EXIF metadata?
Yes. Since the JPG is redrawn onto a canvas before WebP export, all EXIF metadata—including GPS, camera model, and timestamps—is removed automatically.
